Five Things You Should Ask an Agency About Their Service

  1. Is your agency accredited?
Agencies can hire an independent company to audit the care and the caregivers for their agency. Not every state requires licensure to run a private duty nursing agency. Accreditation ensures minimal standards are followed for care.
  2. Is your agency bonded?
If a care giver comes in to your home and takes something this ensures you it will be investigated and replaced. In most cases the caregiver is terminated.
  3. Does the staff have proper training?
Caregivers should be trained in infection control, HIPPA, body mechanics and house hold safety at the least to ensure a safe environment for your loved one.
  4. Does a Nurse open the case?
A nurse should assess the needs of the client and set up a care plan that an aid or another nurse could follow based on those needs.
  5. Is the staff monitored in the home?
A nurse should come out and make supervisory visits to see the client and check up on the staff. This keeps care consistent and abreast of changes.
